Welcome to Grape Escapes 2010, which is taking a slightly different direction this year. In the spring we are running two bird trips with a wine component, in conjunction with our colleagues at Wildwings:
- Andalusia: Coto Donana and Jerez de la Frontera, 9th–16th May 2010
- Spanish Pyrenees: Birds and Wines of Mountain and Sierra, 6th–12th June 2010
For the remainder of the year we would like to offer the Grape Escapes itineraries on a different basis, by your choice. If you would like us to organise a wine tour to any of the areas listed below, we would be very happy to do so, depending on sufficient numbers to cover the cost of the tour. As many of you will know, we have taken groups to all of these places in the past.
Italy
- Naples to Puglia • Sicily • Tuscany & Umbria • Friuli & Veneto • Piedmont
Spain
- Rioja to Barcelona • Ribera del Duero
France
- Languedoc-Roussillon • South-west France • Alsace & Champagne • Rhône Valley • Provence • Loire Valley
Germany
- Franconia & Baden
South Africa
- The Cape
For those of you who are becoming less than enthusiastic about air travel, we can offer the alternative of trips to some of the French vineyards by luxury coach from the UK. The minimum number for these would be 20 people. Such a trip would be very suitable for a local wine-appreciation society or similar group, for instance. In the autumn of 2009 we ran such a coach trip to the Rhône valley, which proved very successful for all concerned.
The approach to the holidays will be the same as always, to examine and enjoy the fine-wine producing regions in a way that allows the wines to be viewed in context – so local gastronomy and history are also given a significant part of the itinerary. Each of the winery visits is structured for a group and is by previously arranged appointment, whilst the sightseeing is mainly unstructured so as to allow individuals to arrange the time to maximum advantage. We use only scheduled flights in conjunction with transport within the area by local coach.
